Glossary of Terms
-
Edge Gateway: An Edge Gateway provides a controlled entry-point for external clients. It may be internet-facing, or may provide access for clients from a different network domain. Traffic is typically secured by a public TLS certificate. Services are published through an Edge Gateway.
-
Tetrate GLB: Tetrate GLB is a DNS management service that enables the discovery of Edge Gateways using DNS. Tetrate GLB actively manages the DNS records according to service location, proximity and availability. Tetrate GLB is an optional component of the Tetrate App Gateway solution; many customers will use existing GSLB or DNS solutions.
-
App Gateway: An App Gateway exposes a set of services, generally all in a single location or tall managed by the same app team. An app gateway is not external-facing, and traffic is secured using a Tetrate mTLS certificate. Services are exposed through an App Gateway.
-
mTLS Network: Edge Gateways discover and securely route to App Gateways using an internal mTLS Network. The Tetrate App Gateway solution actively manages the configuration and routing within the network to assure availability and least-cost routing.
-
Transit Gateways: Transit Gateways can be tactically deployed to bridge networks when needed, so that Edge Gateways can forward traffic to App Gateways when no direct connectivity exists.
Transit Gateways are invisible hops within the mTLS Network.
