Add-ons Compatibility and Support
Versioning Scheme
All TIS add-ons and integrations will adhere to the Semantic Versioning (SemVer) protocol. This means that version numbers will clearly indicate backwards incompatible changes, feature enhancements, and bug fixes.
Add-On Version Independence
Each TIS add-on and integrations is versioned independently of Istio. While the version number of the add-on may differ from that of Istio, compatibility and support will always be explicitly defined.
Istio Compatibility and Testing
- Latest Compatibility: The most recent version of each add-on will always be tested against the latest TIS-supported Istio/TID version to ensure seamless compatibility and functionality.
- Explicit Versioning: For each add-on, we will specify which Istio version(s) it is compatible with. This ensures that you can identify the appropriate add-on version for your specific Istio version.
Support Lifecycle
Tetrate's support for TIS add-ons follows a simple life cycle:
- Current Version: Tetrate will actively support and provide patches for the latest version of each add-on.
- Previous Minor Version: In addition to the current version, Tetrate will also support the immediately preceding minor version of the add-on.
Any versions older than the immediate preceding minor version will not be actively supported. You are encouraged to upgrade to the latest versions to receive full support and take advantage of the latest features and enhancements.
Upgrade Recommendations
- If you are operating with the latest TIS-supported Istio version, you are advised to always use the latest add-on version for optimal performance and support.
- If you are using an older version of Istio or an add-on, you should consider upgrading both to ensure they are under the support period and benefitting from the latest improvements.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Why does Tetrate only support the current and immediately preceding minor versions of TIS add-ons?
To ensure that our users have access to the latest features, improvements, and security enhancements, we encourage upgrading to the most recent versions. This approach also allows our team to concentrate resources on current and widely-used versions, ensuring the highest quality of support.
How frequently are TIS add-ons released or updated?
The frequency of releases is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, the introduction of new features, the need for bug fixes, or updates in response to Istio releases. While there isn't a fixed schedule, we commit to ensuring that every release is of the highest quality.
What if I face challenges during the upgrade process?
We understand that upgrades can sometimes be complex. We provide detailed documentation to guide users through the process. Additionally, our support team is always available to assist with any challenges encountered.
How do I know if a specific TIS add-on is compatible with my Istio version?
For every TIS add-on, explicit versioning is provided which states the Istio versions it is compatible with. This ensures clarity and allows you to match the appropriate add-on version with their Istio deployment.
